Captivate (Need #2)

Captivate Summary:
Zara and her friends thought they'd solved the pixie problem. And they did - sort of. The pixie's are all locked away, deep in the woods. But the king's needs grow stronger each day that he is in captivity, while his control over his people weakens. And it's enough to draw a new king into town. Astley claims he is different. He claims there are pixies that can live peacefully with humans, that it doesn't have to be all violence and nastiness all the time. Zara wants to believe him...until Astley also claims that she is fated to be his queen. There is no way Zara would ever turn pixie. And she's got good friends who will make sure of that. Besides, she and Nick are so in love they're practically inseparable. But when they very thing Zara wants to protect most is exactly what's at risk, she is forced to make choices she never imagined....

Captivate Review:
Awesome. This book is way better than the first book. You now know that the bad guys are pixies and you`ve got a whole new understanding than the other book. Everything is more rounded and the characters are showing some growth and you get to see some vulnerability to them. The beginning starts off a bit slow but you get an idea of where the story is at and how far everything progressed from the previous book. The beginning of this book is a bit slow but it starts to pick up a lot when Zara meets Astley and after Nick dies. You get to see a different side to Nick because he hates all pixies and Zara because she is now willing to talk and save Astley and kidnap them. That was actually kinda funny when they did that. I feel that Zara worries a lot more than she did in the first book and it started to look like she wouldn`t do anything dumb without a good reason, but she does after Nick. This was even after Astley and many people warned her not to. You see her start to feel something for Astley but is constantly making him into a bad guy.

Everyone in Zara`s group is incredibly biased against pixies and I understand that pixies messed up a lot of things but they think the worst of pixies without an open mind, even Issie. There were major heart stoppers in this book. When Nick died I kinda felt happy because he was all anti-pixie when Astley was my favourite character. Also, it would give Zara time to think about pixies without being pressured which I think was a good opportunity to find out who she really is. I was also really surprised when Zara makes a choice with Astley, but kinda felt that it was already coming. The ending was also good in this book because it was simple and didn`t leave off at a cliff hanger which I sometimes hate. This book would get 5 stars because it was fast paced and lots of twists.

Need (Need #1)

Need Summary:
Zara White suspects there's a freaky guy semi-stalking her. She's also obsessed with phobias. And it's true, she hasn't exactly been herself since her stepfather died. But exiling her to shivery Maine to live with her grandmother? That seems a bit extreme. The move is supposed to help her stay sane...but Zara's pretty sure her mom just can't deal with her right now.

She couldn't be more wrong. Turns out the semi-stalker is not a figment of Zara's overactive imagination. In fact, he's still following her, leaving behind an eerie trail of gold dust. There's something not right - not human - in this sleepy Maine town, and all signs point to Zara.

Need Review:
When I first picked up this book I didn't expect it to be about pixies. And no it's not the mini, fairy-dust pixies like Tinkerbell. It is full sized, gold glitter pixies that eat people...or just souls. It's a pretty cool idea that hasn't been done before. It kinda reminds me of the Iron Fey series. Also, a little bit of Twilight because she loses a family member then moves into a cold location where she's pretty awkward. But thank god that this book is MUCH better! The grammar was a little off and there were some moments I just had to slap my forehead. It was quite cheesy for a book, but that is expected since soooo many YA are written like that. Going into the book thinking like that made this book a lot easier.

The book started off interesting enough with her father dying, seeing some weird man following her and her ability to list phobias to calm herself. Each chapter stared with a different phobia! Anyways, the book had a predictable start and it was only worse when she met a two hunks, both chasing after her, and the classic high school bitch and two geeky friends. From there we discover that Pixies and Wereanimals are real. While it is a little weird that Zara was so accepting of it, it was a little refreshing to see that she wasn't going to have a freak out about it. On the other hand she was quite stupid. When she saves Nick in wolf form and suddenly the wolf is replaced with a man, she can't make the leap that he was the wolf *face palm*. She also couldn't believe other people were pixies, can't because of spoilers, and even when they accepted they were pixies she was still confused *face palm*.

While the book did have it's issues, it was the first book in the series so I'm giving it some leeway. Also, the love story between Nick and Zara was not so believable. They should work on it for the next one.

Overall 3-4 stars!

Lost Girls (Drake Chronicles #0.5)

Lost Girls (Drake Chronicles, #0.5)Lost Girls Summary:
Helena is in a group of rag tag girls called the Lost Girls. This way she knows about vampires and she knows about Liam Drake, and Helena has a grudge against Liam, but still has feelings for him. If this sin`t hard enough, girls are getting kidnapped on the streets. Will Helena and Liam work together to stop this before Helena gets the same fate.

Lost Girl Review:
I found this book interesting. It was set in a different time all together and I found it fun because I felt like I could tell the future mainly because this book came with the fourth book in the series. This book was interesting because I felt it was a lot more violent and mature than the other books. You can really see where Solange and her brothers got their attitudes from and a whole new side to Lady Natasha. It's got good humor in this and doesn't annoy you with it's too strong and stubborn characters. This book is very small but it has enough detail to get a good idea of this book. This was told only in Helena`s POV. It gives you an inside on Helena and how her life was before and then you compare it to after in the other books. It was actually pretty interesting to see how Violet Hill was back in the day and how the whole series started. Nothing would have happened without the help of Helena and Liam! Another wonderful short story and really insightful just like Corsets and Crossbows.

Sound and Fury (Drake Chronicles #5.5)

Sound and Fury (Drake Chronicles, #5.5) Sound and Fury Summary:
Sound is a short story and an e-novella, but it can also be found on the back of Blood Prophecy. It is told by Duncan Drake and Sky. They are both vampires and they meet at the blood camp. This book takes place right after Solange is made Queen of the vampires, and the Drake family is escaping.

Sky has had her eye on Duncan Drake throughout the Blood Moon gathering. So when they find themselves isolated in the woods and attacked by the three Furies, she's in danger of losing more than her life - her heart is at stake...

Sound and Fury Review:
This book was really short, only 30 pages, so I felt that there could have been more of a story to it. Overall the book was good, and I liked Alyxandra added another character to the book that wasn't the most important character to the whole series and to the whole plot line. She`s a whole new character actually but she does make an appearance in Blood Prophecy. Also we got to see the thoughts of another Drake who doesn't make that many appearances. I would have liked this book to have a cover but since it`s on the back of Blood Prophecy it doesn't get one. This book like the others had action and romance in it, but it was a good mixture and balanced each other out. This gives you an idea of what happened to the furies which was interesting and you saw Duncan`s personality, more than just being really quite and a mechanic geek.Good book, unfortunately it is most likely the last short story unless Harvey can get a Lucy Spin Off! Fingers crossed.
